Soyinka Tells Buhari To Stop Improvising With Human Lives

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has called on President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to stop the blame game and urgently salvage the nation from becoming a failed state.

In a letter to the government yesterday, titled, 'The Endless Martyrdom of Youth,' he stressed the need to "stop improvising with human Lives. Youth – that is, the future – should not serve as a ritual offering on the altar of a failing State."

His statement reads in part: "Abukakar Atiku has summed up the nation's feeling – this most recent savagery against our youth is heartbreaking. More than the heart is broken however, more than millions of individual hearts still lay claim to bonds in common humanity. The already over-stretched sinews of moral restraint have been snapped off the casing of nation being, and nothing is left but the collective wails of impotence. Not for the first time, what many hoped was a Natural Law of Limitations has been contemptuously, defiantly breached. We need to remind ourselves of hideous precedents. We must remember Chibok. And Dapchi. And numerous antecedents and after, unpublicized, or soon relegated to the sump of collective amnesia. The wages of impunity never diminish, on the contrary, they distend.

"One's greatest fear, with this latest feat of cowardly savagery, is that the nation must brace itself for a Beslan scenario, yet strive to avoid Nigeria become Africa's Cherchnya. Those who have been proven weak and incapable must learn to swallow their vain pride and seek help. Again, this is no new counseling, but of course, the dog that will get lost no longer heeds the hunter's whistle. I envy no one the task ahead, terminating the toxic harvest of past derelictions.


"Blame laying is for later. Right now is the question of – what needs to be done, and done urgently. We keep avoiding the inevitable, but that very unthinkable now hammers brutishly on our gates, the blood ransom arrogantly insatiable. This nation is at war, yet we continue to pretend that these are mere birth-pangs of a glorious entity. They are death throes. Vultures and undertakers hover patiently but with full confidence.

"The dogs of war stopped merely baying years ago. Again and again, they have sunk their fangs into the jugular of this nation. The plague called COVID has met its match on the earth of some nation space once known as Nigeria. I grieve with the bereaved, but mourn even more for our youth so routinely sacrificed, burdened with uncertainty and traumatized beyond youth's capacity to cope."

Popular Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde advises women on the need to have their own money before rushing into marriage.

The veteran actress made this known in an interview with BBC Yoruba. According to Omotola Jalade who married at 18, she was already self-made.

In her words;

"One must apply wisdom or common sense in everything one does. People cannot say that because I married at 18, therefore they can also do it. The question is, 'are you ready for marriage'? When I was 18, I was ready. I had been working since I was 15-year-old and I had become a millionaire at the age of 18. That is a fact that a lot of people don't know.


I had my own money. I was not dependent on any man. Moreover, my father died early, so I was already responsible for my younger siblings. I was like their mother at that time, so I was very mature and financially prepared.

One should not marry a man when one is not financially stable. If one does that, one would be going into slavery or better still, prison. If any of my children, after considering all these factors, say they are ready for marriage, we (parents) would meet the person and if we like them, we would give them our blessings."

Tonto Dikeh vows to “personally make sure” actor Baba Ijesha “never sees the light of day” after he was accused of defiling a minor

Tonto Dikeh has vowed to personally get involved in the rape allegations against Yoruba actor, Baba Ijesha.

The actor whose real name is Olanrewaju James was arrested by the Lagos state police command for allegedly defiling defiling 14-year-old girl over the course of 7 years.

The police said in a statement that the suspect "confessed to the crime" and was also "captured by a CCTV camera in the house of the complainant".

Reacting, Tonto Dikeh shared photos Baba Ijesha and vowed to make sure that justice is served.

She called on mothers to rise and fight for justice for the girl.

She added: "He raped us all when he raped her. Mothers come out, they have stabbed us."

Blaqbonez, Amaarae and Buju feature in new 'Bling' video

The video depicts an iced-out Blaq, sporting his new look, with 'Bling' being the artist's first video since cutting his pink dreads and replacing them with a pattern-dyed buzz cut.

Blaqbonez is joined by alté queen, Amaarae and Burna Boy signee. Buju, in the new music video for Blaq's latest single, 'Bling'. The video was directed by frequent Blaqbonez collaborator, TG Omori, who also directed videos for the singles, 'Mamiwota' and 'Haba.'

On April 23, 2021, Nigerian rapper and ZANKU records boss, Zlatan released a new single titled, 'Cho Cho' and it features DMW superstars, Davido and Mayorkun.

The single is Zlatan's follow-up to his last single, 'Lagos Anthem,' an ode to all sides of the Lagos life.

The song is a street-hop anthem that has already generated a dance routine. Zlatan has also teased its video on Instagram. P-Priime produced the record.

Actor, filmmaker and Ideator, Gideon Okeke tackles Nigerian medical practitioners over prognosis and prescriptions.

The seasoned actor has taken to his Instagram page to call out Nigerian medical practitioners who have formed the habit of withholding a patient's prognosis or prescription from them after carrying out a medical consultation.

Kelechi Iheanacho To Join Chelsea

Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, is set to join Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea this summer.

According to Spanish publications, Fichajes, Tuchel is very convinced in the ability of Iheanacho to improve his team's attack next season.

Iheanacho is one name being considered by Tuchel at Stamford Bridge should the west London club miss out on signing Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland this summer transfer window.

Tuchel is impressed with the talents of the Nigerian international, who is one of the most in-form strikers in England currently.

The report added that Tuchel is not the biggest fan of Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, with the ex-PSG manager leaving the England international out of Chelsea's starting XI a few times in recent weeks.

Chelsea are also open to the possibility of striker, Olivier Giroud, leaving the Blues at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho has so far scored 15 goals in 31 appearances for Leicester City this season.

The 24-year-old joined Leicester City from Manchester City for £24 million in 2017.

Chairman of Heirs Holdings Tony Elumelu on Thursday spoke on the possibility of buying the majority stakes in Manchester United.

There have been growing frustrations at the Glazer family, owners of the club, following its decision to join the breakaway European Super League which has now fallen through.

Fans broke into the club's Carrington training ground on Thursday and protested against the Glazer ownership.

Responding to a Twitter user;

@victorpazubuike who urged Mr Elumelu to "create a consortium of investors" and buy the club, the UBA chairman said any investor would jump at the offer to own a stake at the Manchester club.

He, however, stated his reservation being global sports politics.

Heavy Shooting As Gunmen Reportedly Attack Sunday Igboho’s House in Ibadan

Some unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked the Ibadan residence of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho.

According to the BBC Yoruba service, the attack occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, on April 26.

The publication stated that gunfire was heard in front of Igboho's house located in the Soka area of Ibadan.

A spokesperson to the activist, Dapo Salami, told the BBC that the gunmen stormed the residence at 1am.

He stated that the attackers were resisted by Igboho's supporters on the premises.

Singer Chike – Reality Shows Are Emotionally Stressful

Talented Nigerian singer, Chike-Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known as Chike speaks on his musical journey following his participation at the famous reality television show, The Voice Nigeria, which he emerged runner-up in 2016.

Chike said reality shows are emotionally stressful, while explaining how he faced setbacks after the competition. The musician stated that people he hoped to support him after the contest disappointed him.

The 'Running' crooner revealed it took him over three years to establish his feet in the music industry, despite being popular on a reality show. He advised participants to do away with the ideology that reality shows are automatic tickets to fame.

"Emotionally, it was stressful to have so much dreams. Like you (referring to the show's host) said, when people come out of the reality show, there is pressure and it's heart-wrenching when people see me and start asking 'so what are you doing now?" Chike asked.

"I'll be like, can't you see, I'm into music. You're the one not following up'. But I actually understood their point. I just knew I had to keep working. All I would say is that I'm grateful that I participated in The Voice Nigeria."

"They (reality shows) give visibility…but is it really about you or the business? The business, to me, is to entertain Nigerians and I want to believe the greatest win any contestant could get was the visibility," he said.

"And it could be the greatest setback for you too, if you're not able to do anything with it. After the reality show, it took me about three years plus to be able to get anything properly to sort myself. So, imagine everybody knows you because you appeared on TV, then all of a sudden, you're nowhere again.

"So, I won't say don't go for a reality show, but before you start, just know that nothing might happen when you're done. Just know that nobody got your back when the show is over. Also, don't expect or feel entitled."

Rapper Lil Mosey Charged With Rape, Wanted By Police

American rapper, Lil Mosey, 19, has reportedly been declared wanted by police for rape.

According to a report from TMZ, the rapper, real name Lathan Echols, has been charged with second-degree rape stemming from an alleged incident in January of this year.

Due to his failure to appear in court on Wednesday, April 21, the 19-year-old Washington rapper is now wanted by law enforcement.

The "Blueberry Faygo" rapper was reportedly charged with second-degree rape several weeks ago ahead of this week's scheduled court date but failed to show up.

Earlier this year, a woman claims that she and a friend went to visit Lil Mosey, but alleges that she was raped by the 19-year-old artist and another man, who the Chronicle reports is named Francisco P. Prater.


An affidavit obtained by the media outlet includes information that one of the alleged victims agreed to have sex with Lil Mosey in a car, but the woman said she was no longer coherent after drinking White Claw alcoholic beverages and champagne. She alleges she woke with Mosey on top of her as he pushed her legs up and apart.

She also recounts experiencing pain in her leg muscles as Lil Mosey continued pushing her legs. The woman additionally says that she blacked out a second time and awoke to the other unnamed man forcing himself on her.

The woman claims to have sustained bruising on her arm, neck, and inner knee.

The report adds that the woman claims she also received a message from someone, which said the guys were talking about "training two girls."

If convicted, Mosey is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Rapper AKA Finally Breaks Silence On Death Of His Fiancée, Nelli Tembe

South African rapper, AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, has finally broken his silence two weeks after his fiancée Anele 'Nellie' Tembe's tragic death.

Tembe allegedly fell to her death from the tenth-floor penthouse of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town on Sunday, April 11.
 
Weeks after her funeral, her rapper fiancé AKA has released statement on his official social media page.

In his statement, heartbroken AKA described Nelli as the love of his life, says "I have lost the love of my life … and every day feels like a mountain to climb. I miss Anele, so much, and I'm heartbroken at the unfulfilled life we had planned," AKA said.

"I have lost the love of my life… and every day feels like a mountain to climb. I miss Anele, so much, and I'm heartbroken at the unfulfilled life we had planned together.

"The tragic loss of Anele has taken a great toll on me, emotionally and psychologically. Insinuations and innuendos made on my personhood have made it even more difficult to process and the strain our families have taken is unspeakable – which is why at this time I choose to retreat to honour my journey, praying that the moments of stillness may bring me closer to some clarity.

"I wish to convey my gratitude to all the people who have supported me during this difficult time in my life, my mom Lynn and dad Tony, Bab' Moses and Ndabezitha, my brother Steffan, my family (both Forbes and Tembe), my heartfelt gratitude to you all.

"To my business associates, political leaders, industry peers and elders, friends and my neighbours, thank you for rallying around me.

"Last but not least, to my incredibly loyal fans … your collective love and support has brought me much comfort.

AKA popped the question in February, and just weeks prior to the fatal morning of Tembe's untimely death, AKA had alluded to have started the lobola negotiations (bride price).
