BBNaija: Boma – Reveals Why He Became Intimate With Tega

Posted: 08 Sep 2021 12:30 AM PDT

Boma, one of the recently evicted Big Brother Naija season 6 housemates, has said he had no intention to take Tega away from her husband.

Boma, who was evicted out of the reality show on Sunday, September 5, with Tega and 2 others, told Ebuka during his post-eviction interview that he started getting intimate with the married female housemate because they wanted to give the viewers a show.

According to him, Tega was the boys' favourite and the boys felt she was better than other girls.

"Tega was the boys' favourite. She will make daring jokes, we felt she was better than most girls because we felt girls were lying that they were single.

"I and Tega saw that the house was boring, people were always sleeping, so we decided to give the viewers a show. We felt we could be a standard performer.

"I did not feel I should step back because she was married but now I see. It is late, I am human but my intention was not to take a married woman away from her husband."

Recall that Boma has taken responsibility for his actions and apologised to his fans for his mistakes.

Meanwhile, Tega has clarified that her relationship with Boma was a script.

BBN’s Tega’s husband breaks silence – “I’m broken. I want my God-fearing wife back”

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 11:00 PM PDT

Ajeboh Krislawrence, husband to BBN season 6 housemate, Tega, has broken his silence following her eviction from the show.

Recall that Tega who was evicted from the show on Sunday September 5, had an 'affair' with fellow BBNaija housemate, Boma, who was also evicted from the show same night. In a recent interview with blogger Tunde Ednut, Ajeboh revealed he was broken at his wife's actions in the big brother house.

"We've been married for four years now. Tega told me she was going to do everything in the house except s*x. I objected and told her to behave like a married woman and represent married women which she agreed to.

I was shocked and broken to see her spending time with another man in the house. That isn't Tega. My wife is a good girl. She's a God fearing woman. The woman I saw in the house isn't the Tega that I know.

I feel broken, terribly sad and my ego has been tampered with. I can't even leave the house because of what people have been saying about my wife in the streets. Tega is a good girl and I still don't know why she did what she did in the house. I want the woman I used to know back."

WhatsApp may soon allow users to hide their last seen from individual contacts

WhatsApp has given users few ways to mask their activity on the app. If you don't want people to see that you have opened their message then you can simply disable the blue checkmark. Some prefer not to have their statuses viewed by certain contacts (for various of reasons) and the app provides a way to politely exclude those undesirables.

The last way and probably the oldest is "last seen" which removes the time stamp in a WhatsApp chat and this feature may be getting a more personalised touch.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on allowing you to obscure your last seen status for individual contacts.

Much like with statuses you will be able to block certain contacts that you might feel should not see your last seen. This feature according to WABetaInfo may be extended to your profile picture and About in the setting menu.

It's not clear when this feature will roll out to beta testers, WhatsApp may, as with a litany of other features that have been reported, choose to shelve it. However, this one might be likely because of WhatsApp seemingly trying to make up for its privacy policy blunder.

The final frontier for this kind of personalisation is choosing which contacts can see read receipts/blue tick. That would certainly cause a lot of interpersonal controversies especially if someone snitches.

Bill Cosby Accuser Andrea Constand Blasts Court For Setting Him Free

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Following his release from jail two months ago, Bill Cosby's accuser, Andrea Constand has broken her silence.

Recall that Constand is the woman whose testimony put the comic actor behind the bars after she had accused him of drugging and violating her, only for him to have his conviction overturned on a technicality in June.

Speaking in a new interview with The New York Times, to promote her new memoir, Constand said she was left shocked and angry at the court decision after Cosby's conviction was reversed.

'I had a lump in my throat,' she said. 'I really felt they were setting a predator loose and that made me sick.'

Asked about the comedian's conviction being overturned, she said: 'I was really shocked. Disappointed.'

But she insisted she had no regrets, saying: 'I have come way too far to go back to that place to wonder whether it's all worth it or to have regrets. It was worth it. It was worth it.'

Cosby, after spending nearly three years in prison, walked free in June when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his 2018 conviction.

The conviction was secured after two trials, on charges filed by Constand, a Canadian former basketball coach at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The court found that Cosby relied on a written promise from a district attorney that he would never be charged if he gave incriminating testimony in Constand's civil lawsuit – only to have it later used against him in two criminal trials.

That civil suit saw Cosby pay Constand $3.8 million.

Prosecutors in suburban Philadelphia must decide this month whether to appeal the decision to the U.S Supreme Court.

Constand has now decided to tell her story in a memoir out Tuesday called 'The Moment.'

She admitted that, when she was told of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's decision, she was angered that he would be back on the streets.

She said she received phone calls and messages from other women who had accused Cosby, explaining: 'They were devastated, they were so angry.'

'After a few deep breaths, I just felt this is not my problem,' she said.  Now it made me feel the shame is on the Supreme Court. It's not on me anymore.'

She added: 'I hope it doesn't deter anybody.

'I hope people will still find their voices. I hope that they don't look at his freedom as a reason not to come forward. Quite the contrary, I hope they feel if Andrea can do it, I can do it.

'There were so many victories along the way.
'Society paid attention.'

'Now that I have weathered yet another strange turn in this long saga, I realize that I cannot let reversals like the (Pennsylvania) Supreme Court decision defeat me,' she writes, of the verdict being overturned.

'Life is unpredictable. Much is beyond our control.

'In the end, happiness is all that matters and I am determined to live a happy, purposeful life.'

Relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro Nkiruka has lashed out heavily on Tega's husband, AJ money, following his recent interview.

In her words:

"What a real MAN will do is go to that multichoice house and demand for his wife…………
She owe you an explanation, you don't owe anybody an interview .
It's called protection .

Your wife protected you when u cheated too, protect her now she needs you.

"Tega was the boys' favourite. She will make daring jokes, we felt she was better than most girls because we felt girls were lying that they were single.

Selling on social media? Don’t frustrate customers, display your prices

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 06:58 AM PDT

Zimbabweans so far have responded well to the pressures of the pandemic would be an understatement.

The adoption of online stores, sellers peddling their wares on social media and WhatsApp are fantastic examples of how adaptable Zimbos are. On top of that, we have seen a number of new e-commerce marketplaces that have sprung up with a litany of services for both sellers and buyers. However as good as this is, there has been one glaring problem that I have encountered while surfing the interwebs looking for deals. There is a collection of sellers who, for whatever reason, refuse to display prices. The compromise they offer is the infamous "inbox for details" or simply have their contact information listed on a page or group.

Now, I understand why sellers might not want to display prices. Zimbabwe is not a conventional operating environment by any stretch of the imagination. One of the key problems has been the Oprah Winfrey style Statutory Instruments we have seen being dolled out. I am sure that SI 127 of 2021 is still fresh in the memory and its cryptic withdrawal from the general market and only applying to entities that trade on the forex auction further exacerbates the nature of operators when it comes to the issue of price.

No one wants to scramble and change a website overnight or alter social media posts to make sure that they comply with the prevailing law. At this point, I can imagine that there are those who are going to protest and you are most welcome to but before you begin hear me out.

Who wants their time wasted?

The most common comment I have seen on social media advertisements for a service or product with no price is unsurprisingly, "How much?". Before I go on I have to say I am looking at this from the customer's perspective and as a prospective patron, I want to know as much information about the product at a glance. There are so many other stores competing for my attention and if you don't have your price listed, I and I'm sure others, will move on.

It doesn't matter how good the deal you are offering is, because the nature of social media is for content to be as ephemeral or quick to consume as possible. If your potential customers can't make a decision or use the information you have provided to make a decision then it does no one any good. And there is no piece of information more critical than the price in influencing a purchase decision.

Even if someone is broke and they desire that product or service, they will save the post or contact detail for a time when they will be flush to finally make a move.
Why force your customers to chase you down?

If I was selling anything, I would make it as easy as possible for anyone to be able to access whatever it is they need to buy or move on. If you are asking your customers to DM you for the price or further details and that proves to be a complete waste of their time, what are the chances that any individual will return?

You aren't the only one selling that thing in the city or country. And even the obscure or niche things are becoming easier to find.
Do you want to haggle prices with all your customers?

There is an assumption I make whenever I see someone who doesn't list their price be it in a Facebook Group/Marketplace or on WhatsApp is that "the price is negotiable". Setting your price upfront to me and many others I have spoken to reflects that the store or seller is unlikely to budge. If there is some wiggle room then that's a bonus but those instances are very rare.

The point I am trying to make is that you might be cluttering your communication channels with people who are testing the waters. They are most probably looking to lowball you.

I don't know about you, but I would rather let the price be the barrier to entry and deal with customers who are serious about making a purchase or are simply asking to know more about the product's specifications.
You are decreasing sharability

Sharing ads for goods and services is a time-honoured tradition everywhere but Zimbabwe is a peculiar case. What I mean by this is that most people live within a WhatsApp bundle and if you don't offer enough information chances are very few people will want to share that post.

Data may be expensive but time is even more precious and contemplating having to pry information out of a seller is an unappetising prospect. Worse still is the rate of response. If you are the sole operator of a business, you will be keeping money waiting as you wade through people who are asking you about things they should already know from your post or advertisement.

Moreover, in Zimbabwe, things go viral on WhatsApp and you are more likely going to attract attention if your advertisement/post, be it text or an image, includes price(s).

Looking for a fast charger? Read this first

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 04:32 AM PDT

I never really hopped onto the fast-charging bandwagon. I just felt that if a phone had good enough battery life it didn't matter how fast one could top it up. I was impressed by the eight minute top up Xiaomi demoed though.

That attitude came from the priviledge of having access to a power outlet whenever needed. These latest power cuts have changed that.

While researching the best charger for my devices, I realized that a lot of misinformation is floating out there. Let's toss the chaff and see what remains.

Quick O'Level Physics Recap

Remember: Watts = Amps x Volts

Unfortunately, there is no way around getting a little acquainted with our old pals – watts, amps, and volts. Watts = Power (total charge) and this power is the amount of electricity flowing (Amps/current) multiplied by the strength of the current (Volts.)

Fast chargers vary either amps or voltage or both to enable a faster top up.
The device

You will find that device specifications usually mention the total wattage a device can handle. My phone for example can handle a meagre maximum of 18W using the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 standard.

So, first, check if your device does support fast charging, the maximum wattage it can handle and the fast charging standard it supports. We won't go into overviews of the standards to save time.
The charger

Chargers on the other hand talk about volts and amps. Quick maths will determine whether a charger can deliver the maximum wattage your device can handle.

For my phone, the TECNO charger below can do that – 9*2 (18W.) The other one caps off at 15.5W.

We are not out of the woods yet. There are different fast charging standards with different power management chips and protocols so you can't grab any power brick that pumps out your required wattage.

Some standards are compatible with others so you can mix and match in those cases. We won't go into all that.

In my case, although both chargers can deliver upwards of 15W , with the TECNO delivering the maximum my phone can handle, neither come close to that in practice.

I have no idea which standard the first one is using and the TECNO claims to use Adaptive Fast Charging. Neither is compatible with my Quick Charge 3.0 toting phone.
Computer USB Ports

The standard voltage on USB ports is 5V.

USB 1.0 and 2.0 deliver up to 0.5A (500mA) and so a maximum of 2.5W. That's why recharging via the port of an old computer is so slow.

USB 3.0 bumps the amperage up to a maximum of 0.9A translating to 4.5W.

Note that these specs are for ports on computers, dedicated chargers can beat these amperage figures.
The cable

Get one that supports your device's fast charging standard. People usually assume the brick does all the lifting. Don't be people. Don't let your fancy fast charger be underutilized because of a hand-me-down cable.

How do you know the charger is fast charging?

Some phones will indicate, making it easy. Some will display text on the lock screen and some will utilize double lightning bolts in the status bar for example. If you can't find this indication you can use an app like Ampere.

The first screenshot is when the phone is disconnected, the second is when it is plugged into a USB 2.0 port and the third is when plugged into one of the chargers pictured earlier, they perform the same.

Time for calculations: Note that for amps we add the discharging amperage to the charging amperage. Also, 1000mA = 1A, so 500mA = 0.5A for example.

Using the USB port I'm getting 4.272V * [(170+280)/1000A] = 1.92W. Paltry.

Using the chargers: 4.341V * [(170+1000)/1000A] = 5.01W. Still paltry. I could be topping up at 18W.
Conclusion

The three point checklist :

Which fast charging standard does my phone support?
Does adapter/ charging brick support the same standard?
    Does cable support same standard?

The math is only needed when you can't find a certified charger from your device's manufacturer. Then it might be mix and match time.

What if the charger is rated for higher power delivery than my phone? Won't that fry my phone?

It doesn't matter if the charger supports higher wattage than your phone. For example the TELCO above can deliver 24W (12*2), higher than the 18W my phone supports. The phone will take what it can handle and not a watt more.

Of the three components – phone, charger and cable – the weakest link will determine the charging speed. Plugging in your old smartphone or kambudzi into a fast charger is an exercise in futility.

EU hammers WhatsApp with a multi-million dollar fine for violating GDPR

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 07:27 AM PDT

Facebook-owners of chat app, WhatsApp has been asked by the Irish Data Protection Commission to pay a fine of €225m or roughly US$193 million for violating the provisions of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation. It's kind of hard not to feel like this was long overdue given how Facebook and WhatsApp have been mishandling privacy issues this year and in the past.

In my opinion, the fine sounds low compared to the billions the EU has obtained from companies like Google in anti-trust suits but this is the second-largest (Amazon was asked to pay a €746 million fine in July) ever fine under the GDPR provisions which govern how data pertaining to European citizens ought to be handled by the internet companies. The GDPR mandates that data be processed transparently and honestly and stem from 2018 when the law came into effect. Transparency is something Mark Zuckerberg and his empire simply don't value especially where user data is concerned.

Seriously though no one is surprised that WhatsApp was found guilty of violating laws involving transparency except maybe WhatsApp themselves who strongly denied the charge with the usual vague responses that publicity departments issue which actually mean little.

WhatsApp is committed to providing a secure and private service.

"We have worked to ensure the information we provide is transparent and comprehensive and will continue to do so. We disagree with the decision today regarding the transparency we provided to people in 2018 and the penalties are entirely disproportionate".

What WhatsApp had to say about the issue.

If you are wondering what this statement actually means you are not alone and wonder no more. It means nothing. Facebook has been mining user data with reckless abandon for years. This year alone they spent the good part of the year trying to shove down "updated terms and conditions" that made little sense only to make a u-turn at the last minute.

Most analysts are of the same mind as me. They think the company is getting away with privacy murder. In fact, the Irish authorities are not being criticised for the decision they reached. They are being criticised for taking 3 years to handle one case when they receive 10 000 such complaints per year.

Hopefully, such fines will make WhatsApp more respectful where privacy is concerned but I am not holding my breath. It will probably take several years for WhatsApp to actually pay this fine. They will appeal, drag their feet and continue to harvest data on their way to 1984.

Jaywon attacks Blessing Okoro on social media

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 01:30 AM PDT

Nigerian singer, Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, better known as Jaywon has blasted controversial influencer Blessing Okoro, after she referred to him as a 'small boy".

The singer had earlier disapproved of her opinion on the ongoing marital crisis rocking the Idibia family.

Okoro in an Instagram post had stated that Annie Idibia must have endured so much before finally summoning the courage to come online to post about issues rocking her home.

Jaywon in his response stated that Blessing was only trying to discourage people from getting married, and she should let people be, especially the ones that still have faith in marriage.

Blessing hit back, calling him "manipulative" and a "small boy".

She added that if his girlfriend speaks, he'll know that his relationship has also "spoilt".

Jaywon took to his Instagram and lambasted Okoro, calling her "overnight celebrity" and "little girl" with lower pedestal or intellectual wave length.

Read what he wrote below:

"Dear blessingceo or whatever it is you call yourself. Take a look at the Life and Times of everyone involved in this disturbing circle of saga that's been brewing, take a look at everyone; the singers, actresses, actors, LEGIT businessmen, do you actually think you have the right to talk in our midst? These are people with talents and are just mere humans making normal human mistakes.

You calling me a small boy isn't the issue, it's the most humdrum, vanilla thing I've been called, so try harder, little girl. My issue is the fact that the internet has put all of us together and even those without talents are now overnight celebrities and CEOs, not excluding those of you with roguish, disreputable, unprincipled, shamless and tasteless backgrounds. How dare you?

Always so quick to brokeshame people despite your unexplainable source of wealth, YET WE KNOW YOUR STORY BLESSING, YES, YOU!! WE KNOW YOUR STORY. Always quick to jump into issues above your intellectual and moral paygrade .

I'll however tell you one thing and that goes for ALL of you "overnight celebrities" with lower pedestal or intellectual wave length as more hardworking, quieter ones…

Dear little girl, you think because you have followers and you get your nonsense gibberish posted on blogs, that makes you a celebrity or motivational speaker? Or that you move with big wigs means you're big too?

Banks should pay back the money lost by account-holders to scammers & hackers

Recently one of South Africa's leading banks, FNB, lost an interesting suit involving about R2.9 million or about US$202 000 being siphoned out of a client's bank account. The client who can only be described as technically challenged was duped using an online social engineering scheme, he gave the thieves his personal details which allowed them to steal the money through his account. FNB wanted the client to pay back the money. The courts denied their request.

An important case in today's world

Banking isn't what it used to be a decade ago. Back then, the only people you needed to be wary of were ATM card thieves who tried to guess your PIN and signatures. Most heists involved someone gaining physical access to your card. Now it's different with apps, mobile banking and online banking, there are so many doors into your account.

While this is convenient it means you have so many doors and windows to secure in order to make sure your money and account are safe. The truth is your average day account holder lacks the tools and knowledge to protect themselves. Every other week I receive messages from helpless account holders desperately trying to get their money bank.

Banks just give you an account, ATM card and your passwords and leave you out in the cold with half-hearted that are not coordinated send out at sporadic intervals. I feel like most of them don't have real earnest security and safety programs aimed at customers in order to bring them up to speed on what threats lie out there. I am not talking about some lazy PDF out there. I am talking about actually training each new user so that they are aware of the opportunities and threats they face regarding their accounts.
Blame the account holder strategy

In the FNB case here is what happened:

Godfrey Kgethile an unremarkable account holder whose account had a R5 000 (US$350) limit was told he had won a lottery by scammers online
He was using a computer in an internet cafe and he responded with his banking details and ID number to the scammers
Then a person with a "British accent" called him asking for his proof of residence and ID and he provided them.
Again he obliged since this all sounded harmless but imagine his suprise months later when he got a call from FNB demanding that he payback a loan of R2.9 million.
The account holder was unemployed and prior to that the bank had denied him a loan of R6 000 which he intended to boost his business.

FNB did what all banks do even here in Zimbabwe when stuff like this happens. Blame the account holder. They then even took the man to court asking that he pay the millions he had supposedly taken when it was clear it wasn't him.

The bank was somehow making it out as his fault but what happened to him can happen to anyone. Anyone can be duped to give the sort of information he gave out. In fact, sometimes it's even possible to get this data off the internet without even duping someone. After all, once information filters onto the internet it's kind of hard to delete it.
Banks need to be accountable

I think it is the duty of banks to do more in order to combat hacks and thefts like this. For example, Zimbabwean banks should be made to pay back the money lost in card cloning schemes. This is because despite what you would think they are the ones to blame.

We all know magstripe cards are rubbish when it comes to security and yet here we have plenty of banks still giving out such cards. I even know a shameless local bank that takes 10 days to issue a magnetic strip card that comes with fancy embossing. In this day and age? Would be banks be doing this if the money stolen using cloned cards was coming out of their own pockets?

My grandmother doesn't even know the importance of an OTP code. She was just handed a card after opening an account with a bank in Nyanga. All a thief needs to do is download an App, install it on their phone and politely ask her to give her that OTP over WhatsApp and its bye-bye pension money.

Not a long time ago I was contacted by an esteemed colleague who is in South Africa with a case that baffled me. It involved one of Zimbabwe's leading banks. Each month my colleague's relative would have their entire salary siphoned out of their account within minutes of landing in there. Each time it was a new account doing this and the money would go to one of those lite accounts you can open in minutes. The trail would go dead.

They had tried everything. Going to the bank, having their passwords reset. Getting a new phone. Getting a new card. Linking a new number to the account to no avail. Each time they go to the bank the staff is equally befuddled. They keep losing money because changing account details at work takes time.

Again if banks were made to pay for losses suffered by account holders they would be more vigilant and do better to educate their account holders. They would have skin in the game.Banks need to pay back the money lost by account-holders to scammers & hackers
