Toyin Abraham’s Fair Money Advert Promotes Fake Lifestyle and Is Highly Insensitive,

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 05:00 AM PST

In a country where celebrities are being worshipped and adored by their fans, whatever they spit out gets keyed into by their audience. Many of them nowadays do not vet what they promote, they ignorantly contaminate the minds and mentality of their audience.

This afternoon, Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham shared a video of her advertisement for Fair Money, a microfinance bank in Nigeria, on her Instagram page of over 7.7million followers. However, the advert is highly insensitive and an insult to the Nigerian society.

In the advert, Toyin Abraham advised her audience to take a loan from Fair Money to fund their 'baby girl lifestyle' whenever they cannot afford to splash money on luxury fashion items.

The advert showed the actress talking about having four events, but has no cash available to finance the different looks she intends to rock for the events. Although she stated that her debtors are to pay her at a later date, which would be after the events.

There is nothing wrong with living an extravagant lifestyle, if you can afford it. What is wrong is doing the unimaginable, like taking a loan to fund the lifestyle just because you want to be seen as classy and get validations from certain people — if this isn't what a misplaced priority is, then it is absolutely dumb!

For the advert, there are other approaches that could have been used to get people to take loans, such as taking a loan to finance a business, applying for a loan for investment, to learn a new trade or educational purposes that would add better value and yield even more.

It is understandable that some people get emotional whenever they get compliments and attention for looking good, however, not like being in debt to look good when you can improvise with what you already have. Also, taking a loan for hair, makeup, dresses and other unsustainable items in the name of living a 'baby girl lifestyle' is definitely not a wise move.

What is the baby girl lifestyle? A baby girl lifestyle is an illusion created by social media influencers. They claim they are living their best lives by regularly travelling to different destinations, attending different events and parties, wearing exotic items, looking all glamorous, living in expensive houses, driving luxury automobiles and sharing them on social media for others to see.

All they do is share posts of them enjoying from time to time, however, someone is working to pay for that lifestyle they live.

Frankly, no woman who works hard for her money, values and respects money will be out lavishing money every single day. There is no such thing as baby girl lifestyle for adults, except for the actual baby girls.

A viral video depicts the moment a little girl asking for money on the street turned down a lot of cash from a Good Samaritan riding a flashy automobile.

The video shows the young girl being given a large sum of money, but she refuses to accept it because she suspects the stranger has a hidden agenda.

The man demanded that the beggar collect the cash from him, but his efforts to persuade the beggar to do so, perhaps because he believed she was in desperate need of it, were ineffective.

One would not blame the cautious girl as the rate of ritual killings seems to be at an all time high.

2 things I can't forget:
1: How she flogged me one day and spat into my mouth.
2: How God used a woman from my place to save me by travelling home to tell my mum to come to carry me before I die. Long story short.

Few weeks after I left, the woman died afterwards, the man died too. It was said that they were both living with HIV and AIDS and that woman wanted me to contract it by pitting into my mount but God said NO! I don't know where they are now but I forgive them," she wrote.

Noble Igwe laments over rising ritual killings – “Our society does not question the source of anything”

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 08:00 AM PST

Noble Igwe, a well-known media figure and blogger, has taken to his Twitter page to chastised society for failing to question the source of people's wealth, allowing money ritual to flourish.

Igwe is one of many Nigerians who are concerned about a new craze of money ritual amongst country's youth.

As reported yesterday, three teens confessed to killing and burning a little girl's head for money ritual.

The socialite reacting to the news said that the source of riches, particularly on social media nowadays, is no longer scrutinized.

According to him, Churches accept donations, and families collect money from youngsters without questioning the origin of their riches.

He wrote;

"Every day, we are on different pages of people we know that can't afford certain things shouting " God when" then come here to act surprised that people are doing evil to 'belong. Our society does not question the source of anything.

In most clubs, it is only bottle services. They don't sell cocktails or beer, and when people other expensive drinks, music is shut down to deliver drink(s) to one person or a group. People will kill or commit a crime to get such treatment.

People will post three skits in a year and then post a house they just bought, people will appear in two movies then post "new me, new house". The thing is, we celebrate all types of questionable wealth.

The church will take a donation from anyone with money, the village will crown anyone with money, no questions asked. Families don't ask their children how they make their money, and some do not care. It's the society that feeds this monster."

Here are some reasons why babies don't sleep and tips to cope with it

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 07:00 AM PST

If you are a new parent, your newborn crying all night might be driving you crazy.

When your baby doesn't nap after feeding, petting, and even singing them a song, you may start to think something is wrong.

Newborns need more sleep than adults for optimal growth and development. As a result, most babies sleep more during the day and lesser at night. This is called a day-night reversal, and it causes problems for many parents. Various factors can affect a baby's sleep, and below are some of them.

1. Night feedings

If you don't feed your newborn enough during the day, they'll crave food at night and won't want to sleep. To curb this, feed your baby enough during the day or in the evening so they won't wake up at night.

2. Day-night reversal

Although babies tend to differentiate between day and night as they grow older, they don't know the difference. As a result, they can sleep for several hours during the day and stay awake most of the night. You can help them know the difference by making a few changes to their schedule.

For example, don't introduce sleep-inducing activities during the day like swaddling. Also, limit their daytime nap to four or five hours so they'll be able to sleep at night. Another solution is letting sufficient light enter the baby's room during the day and making it darker at night.

3. Teething

When your baby starts teething, it can be difficult for them to bear the pain, so they may let out the pain through constant crying at night. In this case, you may not be able to do much.

4. Changes in their sleep schedule

When your baby falls sick, their sleep schedule can change, and it'll be hard for them to go back to normal after the illness. If any factor disrupts your baby's schedule, start recreating the schedule from the beginning, and you'll make it work.

The hard part was sleeping on a hard wooden floor, as well as having one's bath without toiletries or applying body cream. It was also tough eating the worst meal of my life without oil or salt. On many occasions, I woke up with body aches, yet I would still have to go for tasks."
