According to the man, he never had plans of opening the materials his friend requested he helped him deliver, but the fear of recent drug dealings made him do so. What he discovered was mindblowing. He cautioned against unguarded statements that might affect the goodwill the senators-elect had for Lawan, adding that it was their prerogative to choose their leaders. Nwaoboshi stressed that the legislature had its mechanism for choosing and removing its leaders, advising that rather than handing down instructions, stakeholders ought to consult with the lawmakers to be. He said, "I must give cudos to the APC Deputy Chairman, North, Distinguished Sen. Shuaibu. He made a statement that is consoling, saying leadership must consult and negotiate not to sit in your house and say it must be this person. Nobody is a child. "That is why you see that even those who support Lawan are withdrawing especially within my party. In as much as we agree that whoever is going to be senate president will come from your party, it is not for you to tell us is this person or he will never have anything to do with us. That is not statesmanly.We are going to choose our leader and when we found out that the person is no longer serving the Nigerian people, we have our own mechanism. "The senate is made up of men who have distinguished themselves in their various careers. So you do of sit I'm your office or in your high heaven and dictate to them who is going to be their leader. "Most of the resistance that people are seeing especially in my own party. It is not because someone is questioning Lawan's competence that he does not have the experience or intelligence. Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the Deputy National Chairman North, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has received a seven-day ultimatum from Chairmen of the party, in the six states of the South South, to apologise to the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.According to media reports, the Chairmen threatened that Shuaibu will incur the wrath of the people of the zone, if he failed to do so.They described as irresponsible and mischievous, the letter written to the national chair, asking him to resign, Daily Post reports.The Chairmen added that the tone of the letter showed Senator Shuaibu was being used by enemies of the APC.They declared this in a communique signed by Hon. "The State Chairmen rising from an emergency meeting in Abuja called to review the content of the said letter and to critically evaluate the situation, came to the view that the Deputy National Chairman North merely expressed his personal opinion on perceived issues which is not a reflection of the views of the generality of party stakeholders who are yet to find anything ontoward in the stewardship of the party's National Chairman His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. "The State Chairmen also frowned at the intermittent and most unjustifiable attacks on the National Chairman who have maintained unblemished records since joining active politics and has untiredlessly ensured internal democratic norms are entrenched in the party since his assumption of office. "The State Chairmen observed that what the Deputy National Chairman , North have done is tantamount to creating disaffection amongst party faithful. This they said , is very offensive to the constitution of our great party. "The Chairmen thereafter passed a vote of confidence on the National Chairman and vowed to resist any attempt to blackmail him out of office for standing against injustice that has hitherto been the hallmark of his predecessor which was the only legacy he left behind," it stated.  | ||

Following over a year of a forensic audit, Nigeria's Security Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has concluded investigation of Oando Plc and barred Mr Wale Tinubu, the Group Chief Executive Officer, from being a director of any public company for five years.Mrs Efe Ebola, the Head of Corporate Communications, SEC, in a statement signed by her, said it also barred Oando's Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (DGCEO) from being a director of a public company for five years.According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the SEC in March 2018 announced the commencement of an audit of Oando's account.The commission said that it appointed Deloitte Nigeria to proceed with the forensic audit.In the statement, the Commission also directed resignation of the affected board members and called on the company to convene an extraordinary general meeting on or before July 1, to appoint new directors.The commission said that these and others were part of measures to address identified violations in the company. READ ALSO: SEC Directs NSE To Suspend Trading In Oando Shares "Following the receipt of two petitions by the commission in 2017, investigations were conducted into the activities of Oando Plc (a company listed on the Nigerian and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges). "Certain infractions of securities and other relevant laws were observed. "The commission further engaged Deloitte & Touche to conduct a forensic audit of the activities of Oando Plc. "The general public is hereby notified of the conclusion of the investigations of Oando Plc," it said. According to SEC, findings from the audit revealed infractions such as false disclosures, market abuses, misstatements in financial statements, internal control failures and corporate governance lapses stemming from poor board oversight, among others things. It added that the forensic audit showed irregular approval of directors' remuneration, unjustified disbursements to directors and management of the company, related party transactions not conducted at arm's length, amongst others. The SEC also directed the payment of monetary penalties by the company and affected individuals and directors, and refund of improperly disbursed remuneration by the affected board members to the company. As required under Section 304 of the Investments and Securities Act, 2007, the commission said it would refer all issues with possible criminality to the appropriate prosecuting authorities. The commission said that other aspects of the findings would be referred to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Corporate Affairs Commission. "The commission is confident that with the implementation of the above directives and introduction of some remedial measures, such unwholesome practices by public companies would be significantly reduced. "Therefore, in line with the Federal Government's resolve to build strong institutions, boards of public companies are enjoined to properly perform their duties as required under extant securities laws," it said. It said that SEC, as the apex regulator of the Nigerian capital market, would maintain zero tolerance to market infractions. | Sagay Calls On APC To Return To Court On Zamfara, Rivers Posted: 31 May 2019 12:48 PM PDT
Professor Itse Sagay (SAN), has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to return to court concerning the Supreme Court's ruling on Zamfara and Rivers.According to Professor Sagay, there is remedy in law for the APC on the Supreme Court's voiding of its electoral victories in Zamfara.The Nation reports that Sagay asked the APC to apply to the apex court for a review of the verdict as well as the one, barring the party from fielding candidates in Rivers state during the last elections.The Supreme Court transferred APC's victories in Zamfara state to the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for alleged irregularities in the ruling party's primaries, after a lower court ruled the same on Wednesday, April 24. To Sagay, the verdicts "are a travesty of justice."He said in a statement sent to journalists: "The Zamfara and Rivers state judgments are a national tragedy. We should not allow our legal system to throw up such unimaginable injustice."This major judicial disenfranchisement of the Zamfara and Rivers electorate should be reversed. I advise the APC legal team to apply for a review of the two judgments. "The prefix 'Justice' preceding the names of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges is significant, for it prescribes what they stand for and what they represent: justice!" Sagay pointed out that in the governorship election in Zamfara, the APC candidate scored well over 500,000 votes while the PDP candidate scored just over 100,000 votes. He noted that the APC won all three Senate seats in the state, seven House of Representative seats and 24 state House of Assembly seats. The statement reads in part: "By this judgment, the landslide APC victories in the governorship, Senate, House of Representative and House of Assembly elections are transferred to the PDP. "If the APC primaries were defective, should the electorate be deprived of their democratic and constitutional rights to vote? Is the electorate to be punished for the transgressions of party officials? "Should the judiciary replace the electorate's decision and install losers in office? Could the judiciary not have drawn on the deep recesses of its intellectual capacity, authority and its inexorable commitment to justice, to prevent this undemocratic calamity? "Can the APC officials not be punished, for their lapses without denying the electorate their democratic rights? Should the judiciary take over the electoral rights of the electorate? Is this not a clear case of technical law completely overthrowing justice? "Have the members of the Supreme Court not achieved a level of creativity and authority to provide a solution without burying democracy and taking over from the registered voters as the judicial electorate? "If this judgment had been an international one, it could have been described as 'shocking the conscience of humanity.' In this case, it shocks the conscience of Nigerian humanity." Citing several authorities, Sagay said the Supreme Court is specially endowed with the power and authority to do justice and to ignore law when it is technical and would create injustice, and to avoid at all costs a mechanical approach to the interpretation of the law. "Now, has justice been served in Rivers and Zamfara states? No! In one case, innocent electorate in their hundreds of thousands were prevented from voting for their party by judicial order. "In Zamfara, where voting took place, the verdict of the electorate was taken away from the victorious party and awarded by the judiciary to the woeful losers. "In the next four years, Zamfara state will be governed by a party and politicians rejected by the electorate. This indeed shocks the conscience of Nigerian humanity," Sagay stated. Comrade Frank, a former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, made his stance known in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, My 29. According to him, supporters of the PDP presidential candidate would wait for the Supreme Court's pronouncement between Buhari and Atiku.
